MotoCurve Privacy

MotoCurve helps you plan motorcycle routes. We collect only what we need to run the planner, save your routes, and guide you on the road.

What we collect

• Account — email and name if you create an account, to save routes and let you sign in.
• Routes — waypoints, profile, and saved route names you create.
• Location — while you use navigation, to show your position, give turn prompts, and reroute if you go off course. It keeps following you with the screen off or the app off-screen for as long as a ride is running, and the ride notification stays up the whole time it does. It is sent to our routing server to fetch a route, and otherwise stays on your device unless you save a ride (below).
• Recorded rides — if you record a ride and save it to your account, the GPS track you rode is uploaded and stored with its distance, times, speeds, elevation, and the device name you gave. Delete a ride and its track goes with it.
• What you publish — if you publish a route to Community or share a recorded ride, that route or ride and your display name become visible to anyone with the link, until you unpublish or stop sharing it.
• Donations — handled by Stripe, Ko-fi, or Buy Me a Coffee. We never see or store your card details.
• Diagnostics (optional) — ride logs if you turn them on in Settings, to fix navigation issues. Includes an anonymous session id, route and step ids, speed, bearing, the positions those were recorded at, and — added by our server as each batch arrives — your device and browser type and the IP address it came from. If you are signed in, your account is recorded with them. Turn off anytime in Settings → Ride Logs.
• Terms acceptance — when you tap I agree to the Terms of Use, we record the random id kept on your device, which version you agreed to and when, the IP address and device or browser type it came from, and your account if you are signed in. It is our record that you agreed, so we keep it as long as MotoCurve runs.
• Analytics — usage counts, one entry per day per feature, so we know which parts of MotoCurve get used. They are keyed to a random id kept on your device; if you are signed in, your account is stored alongside it so the same rider on two devices is counted once. No route content and nothing you typed.

How we use it

• To calculate routes and elevation via our GraphHopper servers and MapLibre tiles.
• To save and sync your routes and recorded rides when you are signed in.
• To show a route or ride you chose to publish or share to the riders you shared it with.
• To provide voice guidance and Android Auto navigation.
• To fix bugs when you share a ride id with support.

Services we rely on

Planning a route means asking a few outside services for map data. We send them only what the request needs — never your account details.

• Map tiles and imagery — OpenFreeMap and Esri satellite imagery draw the map.
• Live traffic — TomTom, when you pick the Fastest style.
• Search and places — OpenStreetMap Nominatim, Geoapify, and Overpass for addresses and points of interest.
• Events — public listings from event and rally sites, shown on the events map.
• QR codes — a share link is sent to a QR image service to draw its code.
• Payments — Stripe, Ko-fi, or Buy Me a Coffee for donations.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not show ads inside navigation.
• We do not track you when you are not navigating.

Location permission

MotoCurve asks for precise location while you are using the app. It does not ask for Android’s background-location permission and cannot see where you are when no ride is running. Navigation keeps following you with the app off-screen by running a foreground service instead, which shows a notification for as long as it is tracking — end the ride and the tracking ends with it. If you deny location, route planning still works; navigation does not.

Data retention

Routes and recorded rides stay until you delete them. Unpublishing a route or turning off ride sharing takes it out of public view. Ride logs are kept for 30 days for troubleshooting, then deleted. You can delete your account, routes, and rides by emailing [email protected].

Children

MotoCurve is not for children under 13.
